Sleeping on the right pillow can make a drastic difference to your quality of sleep. Here are four key signs you’re sleeping on the wrong pillow – and what to do about it.

  1. You toss and turn at night

While tossing and turning at night can be an indication that you are a simply a ‘combination sleeper’ – someone who changes position a lot as they sleep – it can also be a telltale sign that you’re uncomfortable while in bed. Tossing and turning a lot as you sleep means you’re experiencing a disturbed sleep cycle, which, as many of us can attest to, dramatically impacts how you will feel and function the following day.

  1. You’re waking up with a stiff or sore neck

If you’re waking up feeling stiff and uncomfortable, your pillow may be the culprit. Neck support is extremely important to good sleep and a lack of it can contribute to associated pain in other parts of the body including your shoulders, back and hips.

Even if you think your pillow feels okay when you lay down to sleep and you’re waking up with a sore or stiff neck in the morning, it’s a sure sign that your current pillow must go. Chances are that your pillow is either too high or too low for your body’s needs.

  1. You’re experiencing headaches

While you may have previously put waking up with a headache down to allergies, there’s a good chance that your headaches are a result of sleeping with bad posture on a pillow that’s not quite right. When you sleep on a pillow that is too high or too low for your body, your muscles are not able to fully relax while you sleep. This means stress is placed upon your neck, shoulder and back muscles all night long, which can lead to a tension headache before you’ve even stepped foot out of bed.

  1. You’re constantly flipping your pillow or waking up hot and sweaty

A really clear sign that your pillow just isn’t right is you’re frequently flipping it over in an attempt to find ‘the cool side’. Another is that you wake up hot and sweaty throughout the night or notice that your sleeping pattern becomes more disturbed during warmer months of the year. All are indications that your current pillow is made from low-quality materials that don’t allow your skin to breathe.

The solution: the At Last pillow

If one or more of these signs are true for you, it’s time to swap out your old pillow for one that will allow you to experience truly restful quality sleep. The At Last pillow from Étienne Home comes equipped with a supportive memory foam Comfort Core and soft, down-like outer layer. Its ingenious pillow-in-a-pillow design allows you to customise your pillow’s height so you can finally tailor your pillow’s profile to your body’s support needs. Finally, the At Last pillow resolves the issue of searching for the cool side. Its plush outer casing is made from 100 per cent cotton sateen, meaning the pillow is breathable and temperature-regulating. At Last, you can sleep through the night without disturbance.
